Information for Authors

 

General Information   

The Bangladesh Journal of Otorhinolaryngology is  published twice in a year, in the month of April and October. The Journal is the official organ of the Society of Otolaryngologists  and Head Neck Surgeons of Bangladesh. It publishes original papers, research topics, case reports and review articles of different fields related to Otolaryngology. Papers submitted solely to this Journal will be published after peer review.

Manuscripts

The Vancouver system  should be followed to prepare the manuscripts. Two copies of each paper and a CD along with figures, tables, photo-micrographs, photographs and the relevant materials should be submitted or emailed to the editor with a covering letter stating that the article neither published  nor  submitted for publication to other journal. Manuscripts should be typed in English on one side of white  paper  with wide margins & double space throughout. Each of the following section should begin on separate pages : Title, Abstract and Key words, Text, Acknowledgements, References,  Tables and legends. Paper should be numbered consecutively beginning with the Title page. BJO is accepting online submission. Please register with the journal at banglajol.info/index.php/BJO

Title page

The title page should include (i) the complete title of the article. (ii) name and  address  of  each  author with signature and  (iii) name and address of author responsible for correspondence.

Abstract

It should begin with the full title of the article. The abstract should not be more than 200 words. The abstract should state the purpose of the study or investigation, basic procedures,  main findings and principal conclusion.

Key words 

Three to ten  key  words  may be provided below the abstract using terms from the Medical Subject Headings (Index Medicus). Where no appropriate words are listed those dictated by common sense / usage should be supplied.

Text

The text of the study should be divided into sections with headings introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion and whenever possible conclusion.

References

Reference  to literatures should be numbered in Arabic numericals in superscript consecutively in the order in which they are appeared in the text. At the end of the article the full list of references should give the names of all authors followed by the title of the article,  the full  title of the journal or abbreviated according to Index Medicus, the year of publication, the volume number and the first and last pages of the article. It is most important that authors should verify the accuracy of every reference before submitting a paper for publication.  Examples of  correct forms  of  references are given below.

Book

b)    Groves J., Gray R.F. (editors). A Synopsis of Otolaryngology, fourth edition. Bristol : John Wright & Sons, 1986; 446-448.

Chapter in a book, edited / compiled by an author/authors.

c)     Ludman H. Complications of suppurative otitis media. In : Booth J.B. (editor). Scott - Brown’s Otolaryngology, fifth edition, vol. 3,  London;   Butterworth &  Co.  Ltd., 1987;  264-291.

Tables

Tables should be typed written on separate numbered pages and should follow the reference list. All tables should be numbered consecutively using Roman numericals. Each must carry a brief description heading.

Illustrations

Photographs and photomicrographs should be printed in black and white glossy paper and must be unmounted.  Figures should be drawn in black ink on thick white paper or card and be  submitted in orginal. Figure number, an indication of the top edge and name of the first author  and title should be marked lightly on the back of each figure.  Do not staple or paste illustrations on paper.  Legends should be given in a separate page.

Abbreviations 

Standard abbreviations should be used whenever possible. The full term for  the abbreviation should precede the first use of the abbreviation in the paper.

Ethical aspects

For ethical aspects the World Medical Association’s code of ethics in  BMJ, 1964; 2 : 177 will be considered. Authors should indicate in methods whether permission of relevent ethical committee have been taken if necessary.

Statistical analysis

Statistical analysis should be described in full detail to enable a knowledgeable reader with access to the original data to verify the reported results. Study design should be stated with details about randomization.

 

The author/authors are entirely responsible for accuracy of all statements and data contained in the manuscript, accuracy of all reference information, and for obtaining and submitting permission from the author and publisher of any previously published material included in the submitted manuscript. The editorial board is not responsible for any information, data, comment or statement cited in any of the article.
